Following some much needed rest and rejuvenation, January 2026 has seen a flurry of activity. Rebecca kicked off the year by delivering the Oath of Office to NYC’s Public Advocate Jumaane Williams. We also held the first of what will be many community sessions with our new partner organization Adhikaar. We appeared in immigration court eight times, taking on more clients who are held in ICE prisons outside of New York. This is an extraordinarily challenging time and we are grateful to be able to do our part.
Supporting immigrant New Yorkers across the country
To respond to the urgent legal needs of African New Yorkers imprisoned in immigration jails across the country, and at the behest of our partners Afrikana and UndocuBlack Network, we embarked on a project to support dozens of detained people from different African countries, who lack access to free legal support.

We hope that this is just the beginning of this effort and that we will be able to continue supporting immigrant New Yorkers everywhere.
