The training will be held via Zoom for 10 weeks, starting on Friday, June 5, 2026, and will be conducted using the curriculum of the Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC). This curriculum involves training time and assigned coursework, and culminates in an open-book exam. Students should expect to dedicate approximately 6-8 hours per week to the course.

Time: 10 a.m -12 p.m & 1- 3 p.m. EST,
Friday, June 5, 2026 – Friday, August 14, 2026

Detailed Agenda available here.

Location: Zoom (exact link will be provided upon successful registration)

This course will provide the necessary training component to allow individuals  to request accreditation as “Partially Accredited Representatives” from the U.S. Department of Justice (“U.S. DOJ”).

Federal regulations allow non-attorney “Partially Accredited Representatives” to represent noncitizens in matters before the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The course will touch on all areas of immigration law and practice, but focus on the topics most relevant to those representing low-income immigrants in the U.S.

To ensure compliance with the requirements of the accreditation application process, we recommend that only individuals with U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residence, or other long-term immigration status apply for this training. If you have questions, please contact Carmen Maria Rey Caldas at Carmen@cocounsel.org.

Additional requirements for applying for DOJ recognition and accreditation will be discussed during the training week. Participants who pass the take-home test will receive a certificate of completion from the Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC), the authors of the training curriculum. This will help participants in the process of obtaining BIA accreditation.
